Location: Boreal forest is the largest biome. The Taiga is just below the Tundra. The Tundra and the Taiga are the coldest biomes! The Taiga is stretched out between Eurasia and North America. Some examples of where the Boreal forest is located in is Canada, Alaska, Russia, Mongolia and many more! The Taiga is cold because it is not near the equator so the biome is colder. When biomes are close to the equator it is going to be hot. The Taiga is a little bit south of the North Pole it is below the Tundra where it meets the North Pole.
5 plants: The Taiga has plenty of plants but here are 5 of them..... 1.) Balsam Firs are located in North America, from Virginia to Newfound Land. 2.) The White Fir is about 60-100 feet tall and can live up to 300 years! 3.) Black Spruce plants grow up to be twenty-five meters long .4.)The Eastern Red Cedar has amazing seeds that birds enjoy this plant is scatterd throughout the Boral forest . In the taiga the trees are considerd as plants. Summer time in the Boreal forest its rainy and humid so some plants grow but they dont last long because summer only lasts for about 3 months. 5.) Another plant in theTaiga is a Jack Pine it is about 27 meters tall , this plant's bark is a reddish brown. Mostly trees grow in the Boreal forest not really flowers because of the weather it doesnt last long in spring , fall ,and summer.
Climate/weather: In the Taiga the climate is very reasonable. In the summer its rainy and hot also a short season this is because it rains alot and the sun comes out so its very humid or dry. In the winter it is very cold. The Tundra and the Taiga tend to be the coldest biomes! Summers highest temperature is 70 degrees fahrenheit summers lowest temperature is 30 degrees fahrenheit. In the winter lowest temperature is -65 degrees fahrenheit and the highest winter temperature is 30 degrees. The Boreal forest is ruled by cold artic air. When snowmelts and low temperatures there is very little evaporation in the summer so the ground is really moist! It is not cold all year long it is cold for like 6-7 months and it gets warmer and humid in the summer time but it is very short. This biome has four seasons the longest season is winter. Also fall, summer and spring are short seasons it seems as if those three seasons dont exist. In the Taiga you'll find that winter nights are longer and that summer nights are longer as well. This biome relates to its climate because it changes over time and it gets enough rain and snow to put this biome together.
Precipitation:In the Boreal forest it does rain and snow. In the Taiga it gets about 30-80 cm(12-30 in.)of snow and rain a year. Alot of the precipitation comes during the warm humid summer months.
Animals:
1.) Bobcat- A bobcats body is about two feet long and the tail is about 8 inches.
2.) Gray wolfs- These wolves can live in any biome as long as its cold.
3.) Wolverine- The wolverine is a meat eating animal .When it is an adult it can be up to 45 lbs.
4.) Snowshoe rabbit - In the winter the fur is pure white but in the summer its fur turns rusty gray.
5.) River otter- The Otter is about 25-30 inches long and they weigh about 10-33 Lbs.
My animal:River Otters
River Otters are about 11-31 pounds when they are adults. They are also omnivores. When they are first born they are blind , they mate between Febuary and March. They are able to take their first steps at seven weeks. When they are babies they have to swim on their mom or dads back.During the summer and spring they are nocturnal. They are very playful and do not harm any other organisms. Their fur keeps them warm. Water from the lakes, ponds, etc, help the Otter stay hydrated.Their webbed feet and tail help them swim quickly threw the water. Their nostrills and ears will close completly when they go underwater to look for food. When they go under water they have to keep their nostrills and eyes shut for they wont get water inside!River Otters can survive anywhere as long as there is fish. River Otters live in water and land! Abiotic factors....grass,trees,leaves.....biotic factors...mud,rocks,water. Food Chain:
